In this make, you can combine 3D printed textured “plates” with wood paddles.

Use this relief-making tool: https://makerworld.com/en/makerlab/reliefSculptureMakerV2/

It’s free, you just have to make an account.

Find or make an image of a pattern you think might look good on clay.

For example, I found this image of a phone lockscreen. Using the Makerworld relief tool, I converted the image into a relief plate. I printed that plate, cut the paddle to fit it, and glued it together.

The trick is to use something to help the paddle release from the clay (so it doesn’t get stuck to it). In the above example, I wrapped the paddle in a thin cloth so the plastic from the 3D print didn’t stick. Make sure the cloth is thin enough to not obstruct the paddle’s texture.
